Home Schooling Your Child Early

by Danise B. Keasda

Many parents ask when it is appropriate to begin homeschooling their child. These parents do not consider that homeschooling is in fact a natural process which parents typically begin very early indeed. Although it is not often thought of as homeschooling, a great portion of the interactions you have with your child are in fact educational in nature. When you teach your child their ABCs, you are homeschooling them. Parents homeschool their children all the time without even thinking of it.

This shows us that it is never too early to begin homeschooling your child. There's a lot to homeschooling besides teaching your child on a classroom-based model; you can let your child pursue their own interests to a large extent, which will show you as the educator a way forward to teaching your child in a way that will retain their interest. All parents do this as a matter of course, but few call the process homeschooling.

Homeschooling can be very rewarding for both parent and child. You can read together, count, write and go on field trips to museums and other educational destinations. There's more to education than what you'll see in a textbook; there's what you can learn from the world around you.

As you interact with your child, observing what they enjoy doing and what interests them, help them set goals. Encourage your child to challenge themselves at a pace that will keep them engaged and maintain their desire to continue learning without causing frustration. Homeschooling is actually a very natural act, parents do it every day. Beginning what you would call "official" homeschool is nothing more than a continuation of the things that parents do naturally to help prepare their children for the world.

The things you teach your child when they are still quite young can give them a foundation for their educational future, be this homeschooling or traditional classroom education. Every time you help your child to learn, even something as simple as writing a letter to their grandparents, you are helping your child build a love of knowledge and of learning which will serve them well for their entire lives.

We as a society are used to some conventions about education ? for example, children starting kindergarten at five and graduate high school at eighteen. A lot of parents choose homeschooling to let their children learn at their own pace instead. Maybe a better question is not when you should begin homeschooling your child but what the next step is ? as you can see, you've already started.
